When Do You Need to Medically Consider Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a type of surgery that helps change the shape of the patient’s nose. Cartilage and bone will need to be altered by the surgeon to achieve the desired result. The patient’s nasal bone will need to be fully developed to consider the procedure.

For girls, most will be suitable by the age of 15. Most boys will be eligible by the age of 16. However, younger boys and girls may be viable patients if the procedure is needed to fix breathing impairment.

Children who undergo rhinoplasty are usually sedated via general anesthesia. Some patients may have their noses numbed via a local anesthetic instead. Once the patient is sufficiently numbed or sedated, the surgeon will make incisions inside or between their nostrils.

The bone or cartilage will need to be separated from the skin. The surgeon can then begin reshaping your nose. If a large amount of additional cartilage is required, the surgeon may insert a bone graft or implant.

The procedure will take anywhere from one-to-four hours, depending on its complexity. It will usually take several weeks to recover from the surgery fully.

Medical Reasons for Getting Rhinoplasty

When the nasal septum is not centred, the patient will have trouble breathing. The condition is called a deviated septum and often leads to recurring sinus infections or sinusitis.

A septoplasty is required to fix a deviated septum. It is often performed alongside a rhinoplasty, as most patients with a deviated septum also suffer from a crooked nose.

After the procedures are completed, you will be able to breathe easier. You will be able to exercise more efficiently, and snoring will also be significantly reduced.

A cleft palate and cleft lip are also serious conditions. Fortunately, they can usually be fixed relatively easily via plastic surgery. A cleft palate and cleft lip are usually serious congenital disabilities. The child cannot eat properly, which may cause them to become malnourished.

They may also be shunned by their peers, causing them to become ostracized and depressed. Most infants with a cleft palate and a cleft lip also suffer from a cleft nose. A cleft rhinoplasty can help remedy facial bone abnormalities that affect the nose.

It may also treat nasal inner lining deficiencies and also reshape misshapen cartilage. If you have trouble breathing, the culprit may be nasal anomalies or weaknesses.

Many structural abnormalities can be treated via a rhinoplasty procedure, albeit certain conditions or disorders may necessitate multiple surgeries to achieve the desired result.

Some patients may also suffer from nasal inflammation that becomes a chronic condition due to recurring allergies. Certain anatomical structures in the nose are prone to impeding optimal airflow when irritated.

Widening such structures via rhinoplasty may allow the patient to breathe normally, even when dealing with seasonal allergies. Nasal masses and polyps may also require that the patient undergo a rhinoplasty, as they can block nasal passages and make breathing very difficult.

Undergoing rhinoplasty will require some know-how and preparation, but the results are usually worth the effort in the long run.

Different Types of Rhinoplasty

Closed rhinoplasty does not reveal any external scars. In other words, all of the incisions are hidden inside the patient’s nose. Less surgical time is involved with most closed rhinoplasty procedures, and the recovery time is also quicker than most other types of rhinoplasty.

Moreover, post-operative edema also tends to be less than other types of rhinoplasty. However, it is only designed for minor dorsal rectifications—significant changes to the septal cartilage and nasal tip may require open rhinoplasty.

Open rhinoplasty is used for specific and major nose shaping purposes. If extensive work needs to be performed to alter the nasal structure of the patient, then open rhinoplasty serves as the preferred method.

Open rhinoplasty allows the surgeon to harvest septal cartilage, modify the nasal tip, and implement the spreader flap technique accurately. Revision rhinoplasty is a corrective rhinoplasty performed after an initial nose job.

The patient may need a revision due to a botched nose job or additional benefits not requested during the first procedure. Certain minor issues may require a touch-up to achieve optimal results.

The average revision rate is only 10%, so revisional rhinoplasty is fairly uncommon. Liquid rhinoplasty is a non-invasive form of rhinoplasty designed for minor imperfections.

A Hyaluronic Acid Filler injection is utilized instead of multiple incisions. Juvederm is currently the most common filler used in the medical field for liquid rhinoplasty. It should be noted that the results of liquid rhinoplasty are not permanent. The filler will eventually be absorbed, necessitating additional injections to enjoy the desirable outcome.

Benefits of Rhinoplasty Surgery

Your nose will exude a new and improved appearance that may help improve your self-confidence. Your nostrils may also be resharpened, allowing you to breathe better.

The balance between your nose and other facial features will be harmonized to optimize facial symmetry. Snoring will be reduced, and performing better while exercising or playing sports.

To Your Health

There are both elective and medical reasons for undergoing rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty can help you sleep and breathe better and boost your self-esteem.

Nasal symmetry can be corrected, and changes in nostril size and the overall size of the nose may also make you appear more beautiful or handsome.

There are multiple types of rhinoplasty procedures, each with its unique benefits and drawbacks, so you need to speak to your surgeon to determine the best course of action.
